Many owners, managers and staff are faced with fixing the “security, loss or risk” problem. The problem is they know what the results of the problem are, they just don’t know how to fix or approach the problem. That’s the problem.
So what do they do? They call a professional. They call their local security specialist, practitioner or professional. Here comes the next problem. The individual in front of you aside from having the ability to suggest solutions to your loss concerns, a risk assessment, developing risk management strategies having an intrusion alarm system installed, having video surveillance capture history for you and so on, they must know a few things.
They must understand your business and how it operates. They need to know how it lives. They need to understand not only the immediate problem that you’re facing but have a basis of knowledge that will shed light on others you may have not discovered yet or potential problems of the future. If you or they don’t have that knowledge, you can’t fix the problem.
Quite often discussing the history of the business, discussing its culture and environment, learning processes and procedures through simple conversation may actually bring the problem into better light and often illuminate your answer to the problem.
If your security specialist, practitioner, professional just wants to spout out an answer without knowing the important information around it…I think you might have another problem.
